1890 Thomas Addison Richards Handwritten Signed Letter (JSA)
An interesting letter written by American landscape artist Thomas Addison Richards (1820-1900) to the widow of portrait artist Oliver Ingraham Lay on behalf of the National Academy of Design dated October 22, 1890 in which he writes of the subjoined copy of a Minute entered on the Academy Journal in Lay’s memory as an honored associate, writing, “…He was an earnest and conscientious painter of portraits and of genre subjects , and produced during his comparatively short career, many excellent works which will assure him the honorable record in the history of American Art which he worked so well to gain.”
