Lou Reed hand wrote these "I Wanna Be Black" working lyrics for the opening verse of the song one night at his girlfriend's apartment in 1973. The song was later recorded in 1978 with slightly different lyrics. Handwritten on 8.5 x 11 notebook paper in black ink, the bottom left corner tore off when Reed pulled the page out of his spiral notebook and the small stains on the far left side are very likely red wine. Neither the tear nor the stains affect the handwriting. The "1973" written on the right side edge of the paper was written by his girlfriend in pencil. She had tucked the page into a diary and the lyrics have been in her possession ever since. Comes with letter of provenance From Reed's girlfriend and a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
