Hall of Famer Connie Mack, famous Manager and owner of the Philadelphia Athletics signs this heartfelt letter typed on his baseball stationary dated October 21, 1952 to the Chairman of the Robin Roberts Day Committee in which he lauds the young Philadelphia Phillies pitcher and future Hall of famer, writing “You are paying tribute to a young man who is not only one of the greatest pitchers of his day, but who is a credit to the game of baseball….Roberts is the ideal American Athlete---a real leader who possesses a perfect blend of the will to win and the spirit of fair play and good sportsmanship.” Mack was the longest serving manager in Major League Baseball history, managing and owning the Philadelphia Athletics from 1901 to 1954, winning 5 World Series titles with the team.
