This is a stunning pair of original 19th Century photographic print engravings of President Abraham Lincoln and his wife Mary Todd Lincoln. Lincoln, best known for overthrowing slavery through the Emancipation Proclamation and the Thirteenth Amendment, was the 16th president and first of the Republican Party and was one of the most photographed presidents in history. Mary Todd married a 33 year old Lincoln in 1842 at the age of twenty-three and had four sons, all born at their home in Springfield, Illinois. During Lincoln’s term in Office, Mary Todd was a very active hostess at the White House. On April 14, 1865 Mary Todd was seated with her husband at Ford’s Theatre where he was shot by John Wilkes Booth. Each are framed in original period oval frames providing a stunning historic display of one of our Nations most renowned couples to ever occupy the White House (15 x 17).
