An original set of unused ex-stock 1964 1st series Beatles chewing gum cards manufactured by A&BC. There are 60 cards in the set (numbered 1 to 60) featuring a variety of black and white photographs of The Beatles including group and individual shots. Each card measures 8cm x 5.5cm (3.1 inches x 2.1 inches). These cards were obtained from a confectioner’s shop in the 1960s. At the tail end of Beatlemania, the shop owner found that he had several sealed display boxes of the cards on stock and fearful of the fact that the chewing gum might react with the cards he took all the small packets of cards out of the box and then opened the wrappers, threw away the chewing gum, the wrappers and the display boxes (!) and then compiled all the bubble gum cards into sets. We have purchased several sets of the cards from the family of the owner. The cards are straight out of the packets and unused. Within each set the majority are mint and just as they were back in the day. Several cards in each set may have a little residue on the back of them from the chewing gum but that is the only defect, the photos haven’t been affected at all and the cardboard is crisp and fresh looking.
