Writing on his personal stationery from his final residence, in Cedar Hill, Anacostia, D.C. (10 acres of farmland and a mansion on the outskirts of Washington D.C. purchased in 1877), the famed abolitionist Frederick Douglass writes in response to an autograph request and signs “Very truly yours Frederick Douglass,” written in black fountain pen. A former slaver, Douglass escaped human bondage and devoted himself to oratorical and written war against slavery and advocating for women’s and civil rights activities. 5 X 8. Accompanied by original mailing envelope addressed in Douglass’ hand. Excellent condition. Comes with a James Spence Authentication (JSA) Letter of Authenticity and a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
