Cherilyn ‘Cher’ Sarkisian original Jack Robinson special edition gelatin silver photograph. The photograph was hand-printed from Jack Robinson’s original negative in 2000 at the Jack Robinson Archive and Gallery darkroom in Memphis, TN. The photograph is from a session in June, 1970 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City where Sonny and Cher had a two-week stint at the Empire Room. The Empire was one of the swankiest hotel lounges in Manhattan. It was Sonny’s idea to turn the pair into a Las Vegas showstopper, and their first stop before hitting the gambling capital was New York’s Empire Room, to try out a lounge version of their act. The pair played off their catty, flirty banter and made particular fodder of Cher’s outrageous costumes. The cheesy repartee obviously did the trick, but it was TV, not Vegas, that came calling. Within a year, they had their very own prime-time program, The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, a ratings bonanza. Very good condition. Measures 20 x 24. The photograph is hand stamped on the back, comes with an embossed and stamped first edition book on Jack Robinson published in 2011 by Palazzo Editions in England. Also comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
