An incredible two-page handwritten poem written by Rick Allen. The poem has to do with being positive in life, a way he dealt with the amputation of his arm. The poem reads “I erase old negative thought patterns and replace them with positive new ones. I have all the creative energy and knowledge I need. I attract loving relationships around me. I have perfect health in all ways. Don’t choke on the smoke. Believe and you will see well packed woman. I’ve been living to say”. Rick kept his sense of humor as always! Rick and Miriam used positive affirmations inspired by books of the spiritual writer called “Louise Hay” at the time, to overcome moods of negativity about how to deal with the sudden changes in their lives like how to deal with the obstacles of having one arm in normal life. This process started already when Rick left the hospital where he saw Miriam for the first time again at a friend’s house in Sheffield. Robert, Rick's brother, helped so much in his own way. Baladi stands for “natural dogs who are born free in nature” but live now in cities like Cairo where they get abused and are not wanted or are a victim of intense cruelty. The foundation was co-founded by Miriam Barendsen, Rick Allen's girlfriend throughout the 1980's, who was in the car with Rick when the tragic accident occurred resulting in the amputation of his arm. There are many ways the funds raised by the Baladi Foundation are used to help the vulnerable Baladi animals in Egypt including: Delivering food, providing financial support for on-the-ground organizations and other amazing volunteers, sterilization (spaying and neutering), veterinary care, adoption and fostering. The main goal of the Baladi Foundation is to set up an animal ambulance service in this huge city called Cairo. There is a lot of work to do!
