On December 31st, 1984, a terrible accident would change the career path of Rick Allen forever. Rick Allen and Miriam Barendsen got in a serious car accident that resulted in the amputation of Rick Allen's left arm. Moving from the basic idea of using his left foot instead of his left arm, Rick Allen developed a new custom drumkit, that allowed him to get back on stage. It took him two years, spent between self-doubt and some really hard work on his new drumkit, but Allen made his brave return to Def Leppard in 1986, in a tour culminated at the Monster of Rock festival. This is the original wiring for his “return” drumkit, an extremely important piece of Def Leppard history. From the collection of Miriam Barendsen. Partial proceeds from the sale of this lot will be donated to the Baladi Foundation, an animal rescue organization that works with and supports animal rescuers in Egypt to save homeless cats and dogs who are abused or are in need of immediate help on the streets. The foundation was co-founded by Miriam Barendsen, Rick Allen's girlfriend throughout the 1980's, who was in the car with Rick when the tragic accident occurred resulting in the amputation of his arm. The funds raised by the Baladi Foundation are used in many ways to help the vulnerable Baladi animals in Egypt including: Purchasing of food, providing financial support for on-the-ground organizations and other volunteers, sterilization (spaying and neutering), veterinary care, adoption and fostering, awareness campaigns, field operations, animal ambulance service, relocation of animals to countries outside of Egypt. For more information on the Baladi Foundation please visit: https://baladifoundation.com. Very good condition. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
