This is an historic and rare 1884 Union Association of Base Ball Clubs executed contract for first baseman Charles H Levis to play with the Chicago Union Base Ball Club for a sum of twelve hundred dollars for a period of six months, from April 15, 1884 to October 15, 1884. This contract offers what could be the scarcest party represented in any major league baseball contract, as the Union Association lasted only one season (1884) with the Chicago club migrating to Pittsburgh late in the season to play as the Pittsburgh Stogies. This rare agreement unfolded measures 17 X 14 and is signed on the cover panel by William Warren White, a Civil War veteran who served as secretary of the Union Association. Levis has signed the contract as well as the Chicago team President and team Manager. Player records indicate Levis ultimately played for the Baltimore Monumentals of the Union Association league, perhaps accepting a higher offer from within this fledgling league. Here is a rare opportunity to acquire this historic baseball contract from the earliest inception of major league baseball fitting into one of the tightest segments in the timeline of this ageless pastime. Fair condition with minor separation where folded and light discoloration from age. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
