This original CDV photograph of President Abraham Lincoln was taken from a rare, February 9th, 1864 portrait by famed Civil War era photographer Mathew B. Brady. The square cornered CDV measures approximately 2 1/2 x 4 and is beautifully embossed with a patriotic design with the affixed, albumen portrait measuring approx. 1 1/8 x 1 3/8. The back of the card mount carries printed advertising text that reads “Salisbury, Bro. & Co. Manufacturers of Gold and Gold Plated Jewelry also, Carte de Visites of all Noted Persons, Trade List Sent Free. Providence, R.I.” Extremely rare. Lincoln, best known for overthrowing slavery through the Emancipation Proclamation and the Thirteenth Amendment, was the 16th president and first of the Republican Party and was one of the most photographed presidents in history.
