This is a beautiful sterling silver “loving cup” golf trophy awarded to golfer John H Clapp for winning the 1906 Spring Tournament at the historic Baltimore Country Club. The Baltimore Country Club was founded in 1898 and famously hosted the fifth US Open golf tournament in 1899 (Tournament won by Willie Smith of Scotland). This sterling treasure measures 5 inches tall and 8 inches wide measured from its’ hefty handles. Marked “Sterling” beneath its’ base, the cup weighs in at 362 grams of sterling silver. Famous golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast designed many of the holes at the Baltimore Country Club which today is ranked among the 50 best courses in America. John H Clapp, the winner whose name is engraved on this trophy, is cited as the winner of various tournaments in press archives dating from the early 20th Century and was no doubt an accomplished golfer as evidenced by such a fine a trophy cup such as this. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
