This rare set of vintage custom stage costumes were worn by Motown legends The Temptations and include five suits created for Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin (AKA David English), Richard Street, Ron Tyson and Ali-Ollie Woodson. These suits were designed by famed costume designer Harvey Louis Krantz, and each suit bears a label with the name of the wearer handwritten on it. Harvey Louis Krantz designed costumes for some of the most iconic artists in music history, including Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, and many more. Information about Krantz can be found here: http://harveykrantz.com/index_files/Page433.htm. These costumes were purchased at a charity event in Detroit, Michigan to benefit Detroit’s Motown Museum and came from the personal collection of the owner of the Roostertail Supper Club, home of “Motown Mondays”. The owner of the Roostertail purchased the suits from the late Esther Gordy Edwards (the older sister of the legendary Motown founder Berry Gordy). The costumes feature black jackets with gold strips on the shoulders, shoulder pads French cuffs and satin lapels with satin striped tuxedo-style pants. Each jacket has the wearer’s initial embroidered on the left breast. Comes with a letter of provenance, a small photo The Temptations wearing the same costumes, or ones virtually identical, and a letter of provenance and a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
