This is a rare original vanity license plate from the State of Virginia (2001) once belonging to a Yankees fan honoring the memory of famed New York Yankees first baseman Lou Gehrig. The license plate, measuring 12 X 6 is beautifully lettered "L Gehrig," in Yankees "blue," against a reflective white background. While vanity license plates have been made available in some states, it is rare to ever acquire one with such an accurate tribute of name and color. Gehrig earned the nickname "Iron Man," because of his record-setting 2130 consecutive games played from 1925-1939. Gehrig's streak ended when he removed himself from the Yankees line-up because of his infliction with "Lou Gehrig's" disease. Many batting records are counted among Gehrig's achievements including hitting at least 100 RBI's and 100 runs every full season with the Yankees and twice "hitting for the cycle," (a single, double, triple and homerun in the same game.) The Hall of Fame waiting period was waived for Lou Gehrig and he was admitted the year of its' opening in 1939. Gehrig passed away a year and one-half later (6/2/41). This wonderful artifact is a testament to his lasting impression left in the hearts of countless Yankee fans. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll® Certificate of Authenticity.
