An exemplary handwritten note from Barney Oldfield, considered the Babe Ruth of automobile racing and one of the most legendary racing icons. Written in steel tip fountain pen racing pioneer Oldfield offers his thank you response for a request made for his signed photograph, addressed in his hand, “Oct 16, Dear Mr Wright,” writing “Thanks for your letter and pardon delay in granting your request, very sorry I can’t supply with photo, You honor me, Barney Oldfield,” signing in full name. Racing bicycles prior, Oldfield drove and won his first automobile race in 1902. “Mile a Minute” Oldfield was the first automobile racer to achieve that feat while racing and in the 1916 Indianapolis 500 became the first person to run a 100-mile-per-hour lap. Long considered the Babe Ruth of automobile racing, his record setting racing feats were no less dramatic than his off-track escapades including appearing in early Hollywood films and barnstorming the country racing a car against a bi plane. Very Good condition. 4.375 X 3.375. Comes with a James Spence Authentication (JSA) Letter of Authenticity and a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
