This is a 1996 New York Yankees Kenny Rogers home pinstripe Yankees jersey. Rogers who during a long major league career played for six different teams including the New York Yankees (1996-1997). Winner of 5 Gold Glove Awards and the first American League left-handed pitcher to pitch a perfect game (1994), Rogers helped the Yankees reach and win the 1996 World Series. This attractive jersey bares Rogers uniform number “17” in blue tackle twill sewn on back and the iconic interlocking “NY” Yankees logo sewn on front. Properly tagged, stitched on the outer left tail is a Russell Athletic Diamond Collection manufacturer’s patch, with jersey size “46” below which is sewn the name and year tag, printed “ROGERS-96.” Most significant is the black arm band sewn around the left sleeve in honor of longtime Yankees broadcaster Mel Allen who passed away during the season on June 16 and the 1996 World Series patch sewn onto the right sleeve which is believed to have been added to all Yankee player jerseys after their ALCS Championship which suggests the possibility that Rogers may have worn this exact jersey in his one 1996 World Series start. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a Yankees jersey from a World Championship season from a player whose career is sometimes favorably compared to Hall of Fame pitchers Hal Newhouse, Don Drysdale and Jim Bunning. The 1996 Yankees earned their World Championship (their 23rd World Series title) upon defeating the Atlanta Braves four games to two and also became the first team to win the Series after losing the first two games at home. NOTE: An identically tagged 1996 New York Yankees Jersey attributed to Yankees legend Mariano Rivera from the 1996 season, signed by Rivera recently sold by a major auction for more than $12,000. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
