President Franklin D. Roosevelt opens the 1939 World's Fair in this 7 X 9 black and white original wire photograph. The photograph was taken at the Court of Peace in front of the Federal Hall at the World's Fair as described on the news caption dated "4/30/39" attached on the verso. This marked an historical moment as the Fair was developed to further advance the United States out of the Great Depression and was the first Fair of its kind based on the future, with its' slogan being "Dawn of a New Day." President Roosevelt is credited with making the federal government an agent of social and economic reform. Directing our involvement in WW II after Pearl Harbor, Roosevelt died in office less than a month before the surrender of Germany. Among his infamous quotes was "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." Very good condition. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
