Leonard Cohen hand wrote these beautiful lyrics in black felt tip marker and in pencil. Cohen wrote these lyrics, with the opening line, "This is the song of a faithful woman", in the early 1970's when he was living in a cottage that he had rented from his friend playwright Michel Garneau. Garneau had simultaneously sublet the cottage to another friend of his, a woman who was an artist and writer. The two decided to share the cottage, working on their respective projects, and often sharing tea and good conversation. One day when they were talking about the importance of perseverance, Cohen took these lyrics and gave them to her as a reminder that good work always takes a lot of work. The woman took those words of advice to heart and kept those words, and these lyrics, ever since that time she spent in the cottage with Cohen. Measuring approximately 8 x 10 and in overall very good condition, the paper has some foxing at the top. Comes with a letter of provenance from the woman he gave the lyrics to and a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
