These four pieces of Indian fabric were purchased by Jacqueline Kennedy during her trip to India in March, 1962. Jacqueline Kennedy was one of the First Ladies to travel abroad, and an estimated 100,000 people lined the streets to greet her when she arrived in New Delhi. It was Jackie’s pattern to find fabrics that she liked, then to give them to her seamstress to make clothing for her. However, for a number of reasons, specifically President Kennedy’s assassination, this plan didn’t work out and she ended up giving all these bolts of fabric to her secretary at the time, Mary Gallagher. The fabrics have been extremely well kept, and still have the Indian price tags attached. There are two are brown, gold and black pieces, one black and maroon peacock print, and one rust and creme colored floral print. They measure approx. 41" x 180". The piece was previously sold in Hantman's Auctioneers "John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Memorabilia Collection" auction on July 19, 2003 and comes with an information card from the auction, as well as a picture of her during her trip to India, holding fabric. Also comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
