James F. Wade Twice Signed 1865 US Army Voucher (Officer of the US Colored Cavalry)
Dated soon after the Civil War, this is an1865 Army voucher for payment to the named soldier Thomas Davis described as “colored” headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. The 16.75 X 11 voucher is signed twice by Colonel James F. Wade who in 1864 was appointed to command African-American cavalrymen where he worked his way up through the ranks for the next ensuing decades, achieving the rank of Major General.

Condition: Good condition, with wear and tear evident along the original fold lines.
