Elizabeth Taylor owned and used vintage white beaded evening purse that she used when she was filming Cleopatra at 20th Century Fox.
Provenance: The purse originally came from the collection of a man who worked at several Hollywood movie studios, including 20th Century Fox, starting in the 1940s. He worked as both an onset assistant as well as an assistant in the prop and wardrobe departments. According to his daughter, he posed for photographs with some of the biggest Hollywood starts that he worked with on many films including Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable, and many more. He was always looking for souvenirs on the movie lots and over time he accrued a large collection of items that had been left behind, including props, photographs, movie posters and items personally owned and used by the stars. This white beaded bag is one of these items, and was owned and used by Elizabeth Taylor during the production of Cleopatra. She left the bag behind during filming after discarding it and he took it home with him to become part of his large collection. The purse was later brought to antiques dealer and appraiser Jay Baxter, along with other items from the collection. Baxter has worked in the field for the past 20 years and is a graduate of CAGA. Baxter authenticated and appraised the collection inherited by the daughter including this beaded bag. He viewed the man's photographs, work papers and his very detailed notes that he had taken. Baxter purchased this bag, along with other items from the collection.
