A most unusual, fun photograph signed by Babe Ruth’s sports agent to Associated Press sports writer “for Alan Gould with all good wishes, Christy Walsh 25 years later,” is this large 20 X 16 black and white presentation photograph of an event Walsh hosted to poke fun at Babe Ruth following the 1922 World Series. Attendees to “Babe Ruth meets the Press – Back to the Farm Dinner – New York, Nov. 20, 1922,” are titled in the photograph whose center attraction (Babe Ruth) is pictured with a cow standing above the dinner table as several attendees hold farm produce. Walsh’s signed cover letter dated November 15, 1948 attached to verso, addressed to Gould explains the antics of this event of 25 years earlier hosted in an Elks Club in which Walsh describes “…You may recall that in the World Series immediately preceding that now historic shindig, the Babe had a batting average of some where around .117 which by coincidence happens to be my own life-time, sand-lot batting average. But for the mighty Babe that was tragically below par and something had to be done about it. Hence, the farm party for the Sportswriters.” This would be as close to getting sent down to the farm after an off performance as Ruth would ever experience, and from the looks of it everyone attending had a good time. Very good condition with a few visible lines from the photograph having been sent to Gould rolled. 22.5 X 18.5. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
