This is a scarce doll of President John F. Kennedy originally produced in 1963 by the toymaker Kamar, Inc., named “JFK In His Rocking Chair.” Unsold at the time this is one of the few rediscovered by the Company in 1993 and sold as one of only 50 deluxe versions with a newly modeled rocking chair. In 1963 after much fanfare, the toy had been removed from store shelves to be resold with the head of a playboy bunny and their rocking chairs destroyed. Historical accounts differ as to the reason for this change, but many suggest the White House pressured such a move, believing the image of President Kennedy in a rocking chair would adversely affect his re-election effort. Besides the differing rocking chair compared to its’ original release, this nonetheless scarcer 1993 release of an original JFK in His Rocking Chair is missing a facsimile newspaper prop meant to be displayed being read between his hands. This provocative JFK toy with such a storied history is handsomely displayed in a mirror back, plexi-case (10.5W x 8.5D x 14.5H) with an attached plaque engraved to read, “John F. Kennedy ‘Jack’ 37th President of the United States.” Overall very good condition. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
