The Who played their debut gig of their “Who’s Next” album on October 9th, 1971 at the University of Surrey. It was a small venue, seating fewer than 1000 people. Keith Moon killed it during the performance, breaking pretty much all of the sticks he was using. During the last song of the performance, “Naked Eye”, our consignor jumped up and shouted for Keith to throw them his sticks. After the song, Moon obliged and tossed the sticks to our consignor. The sticks show good wear, and remarkably are not broken like all the others he used that night. Authentic Keith Moon used sticks are rare, but finding a complete pair from a big concert is next to impossible. A must-have for any Who collector! For reference purposes we have included images of the posters that belong to consignor, including a poster for the concert itself, a poster for concerts that were held during the Autumn Term 1971 at the University of Surrey, and an image of the diary page kept by the lucky young woman whose attended the concert with her boyfriend who caught the drumsticks for her (the couple later married!). These items are not included with the lot, they are shown here for reference only. The drumsticks come with letters of provenance (shown in the listing) and a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
