In a most telling letter typed on White House stationery, President Harry Truman writes in response to Evangeline Booth (addressed “My Dear General Booth”) the active fourth General of the Salvation Army and the daughter of its founder William Booth about his feelings towards Germany after their surrender in World War II. Dated May 25, 1945 shortly after the surrender of Berlin, Truman writes, “…I can appreciate your fears lest the perpetrators of barbaric practices escape punishment for their evil deeds…We have a stern duty to teach the German people the hard lesson that they must change their ways before they can be received back into the family of peaceful, civilized nations.” Very good condition. 7 X 9. Comes with a James Spence Authentication (JSA) Letter of Authenticity and a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
