This one piece black and white race car suit was worn by professional race car driver Lyn St. James, whose name is inscribed on the belt and the collar. This piece was donated directly by Lyn St. James and was part of the Fashion Café's permanent collection starting in July, 1998. Named one of the "Top 100 Female Athletes of the Century" by Sports Illustrated, St. James' racing accomplishments are unrivaled by a female driver and most of her male counterparts. Competing in the world's largest sporting event, the Indianapolis 500, St. James became the first woman to win Rookie of the Year honors in 1992. And while best known for her Indy 500 achievements, St. James has held 31 closed-circuit speed records on both the national and international racing circuits and has competed both at the 12 hours of Sebring and 24 hours at LeMans racing events. This attractive, historic racing suit features the many sponsor patches and bears the lead sponsorship of the "Lifetime" network, "Television for Women." This is the first time that items from this collection have been offered to the public in more than 15 years. Accompanied by a picture of St. James wearing this suit and by a letter of provenance from the Fashion Cafe on their letterhead. Also comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
