This is most likely the earliest New York Yankees baseball cap ever signed by Derek Jeter, obtained in person by a fan attending one of only 15 games played by Jeter as a young rookie during his first major league season playing for the Yankees in 1995. The vintage souvenir cap was worn by the fan to see the Yankees play in California against the Oakland A’s on August 22. Standing near the dugout he noticed the young Jeter who he recognized was a rookie taking batting practice before the game. When asked, Jeter obliged the fan’s request to sign his hat which he did on the underside of the brim in black sharpie pen. Unbeknownst at the time, Jeter’s rare “rookie” style signature is today among the most sought after and valued from this future Hall of famer who would go on the following year to win the American League Rookie of the Year Award during his first full season playing with the Yankees. Jeter endeared himself to countless fans establishing milestones and playing with the Yankees his entire career. In 2000, Jeter became the only player in history to win both the All-Star Game MVP Award and the World Series MVP Award in the same year. In 2011 Jeter became the first Yankee player to hit 3,000 hits in his career. Jeter's hard style of play and team spirit earned him All-Star status (14X), 5 Gold Glove Awards and 5 World Series rings before his retirement in 2014 having set a new record formerly held by Mickey Mantle for most games played as a Yankee. Few signed items exist from Jeter’s very first season with the Yankees, especially such an artifact as a New York Yankees baseball cap. Very good condition. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
