1842 Horace Greeley handwritten and signed free frank letter addressed to Nathaniel Fish, Westhaven, Vermont. Greeley was the founder and editor of the “New-York Tribune,” one of the largest and most influential newspapers of its time. Greeley also ran unsuccessfully against Ulysses S. Grant in the 1872 presidential election. Written on three sides of a 16 X 9.75 page which folds down to 5.5 X 3 for mailing purposes. In his letter Greeley discusses the economic hard times in society, commerce and finance but mentions early in his letter that “…In the cities we have touched bottom and are now coming up…” Towards the end of his letter, Greeley writes “…Money is so very scarce now in the country that people hold it back from newspaper men…” Greeley signs, “Yours, Horace Greeley, Remember me to all friends. Tell them I will make them a better speech next time they will let me.” Very good condition. Comes with a James Spence Authentication (JSA) Letter of Authenticity and a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity
