The rare signature of French sculptor Auguste Bartholdi, renowned for his design of the Statue of Liberty, is signed on this lovely carte de viste (CDV) that accompanies a magnificent 5.375 X 2.875 original vintage sepia photograph taken of the Statue of Liberty standing tall on Liberty Island in New York harbor. The photograph is hand notated and initialed by the photographer “Leaving N.Y. Harbor, Aug 22, 1907,” matching the printed date and stamped name on verso. This is an interesting view shared with a large ship in the foreground of ‘Lady Liberty.’ The 2.5 X 4 CDV dates from within a few years of the Statue’s inauguration in 1886.
