Elton John wore this playful yellow faux-emergency helmet with red plastic flashing light and chin strap when horsing around aboard his elaborate tour plan the "Starship One" in 1976. This famed airplane, tricked out with all the rock star amenities, was originally a United Airlines passenger plane that was bought by singer Bobby Sherman in 1973 who had the interior completely redesigned to be used by the rock elite. The plane was initially leased by Led Zeppelin, and then Peter Frampton, Alice Cooper, and Deep Purple, as well as by Elton John from 1973 to 1976. Elton can be seen fooling around with is entourage on board the plane in the photo shown here. In very good condition, the helmet comes with a 5 x 7 Kodak color photograph that was vintage printed in 1979, a piece of red stationery from the plane with a gold plane and "Aboard Starship One" embossed at the top, a 9 x 11.5 "Louder than Concorde But Not Quite as Pretty" rehearsal and tour schedule with a crew pass dated July 16, 1976 on the cover, and a letter from Jozy Pollock who was engaged to Elton's drummer Nigel Olsson and traveled on tour on the plane with the band. Also comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll® Certificate of Authenticity.
