The multimedia artist, Dehara Yukinori, is from Tokyo, and his art ranges from clay sculptures to Sofubi felt material. At age 49, Yukinori garnered a cult-like following within the Vinyl and Toy Art community. His experience within the art world allows him to act as a connection/collaboration between old-school and new-school Sofubi artform. A member of Menpe (Tokyo Men's Painters Society), Yukinori is an incredibly elusive artist - who has had several exhibitions worldwide yet rarely makes an appearance or even leaves Tokyo.
This particular poster is 1 of 9 in the "Hello! Akiba-Chan - Keep On Otaku!!<3" collection. Each poster was printed and signed only ten times - in 2009, making this poster extremely rare to find today.
The posters were acquired at the 2009 "Deharavath 2 Gallery" held in New York by Giant Robot, a Toy Art company. (Sharing the event with two other artists makes this exhibition more challenging to find information on and the pieces even harder to find).
Like most of Yukinori's work, the collection focuses on Societal Taboos, using humour and bright colours captured within a figurine. Yukinori uses an ironic cartoon style to address political, economic and societal issues while partaking in the Japanese toy-art vinyl scene.

In the early 2000s, Otaku, the Japanese term for obsessive, took on the meaning of anime culture. Akiba-Chan is Japanese slang referring to the style from Akihabara, a district in Chiyoda, Tokyo considered the anime capital of the world. From this, Hello! Akiba-Chan is an apparent reference to the Otaku community, and the figurines take on a new interpretation.
