Typed on the stationery of the school of his founding, The Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute, Booker T. Washington has signed this letter as the school Principal dated Jan. 7, 1904. Washington responds in his letter addressing the curriculum of practical agriculture and gardening, indicating “…Our students have found that gardening furnishes quite lucrative employment in the South.” Washington founded the Tuskegee Institute, a predominately black college in 1881. A civil rights pioneer, Washington was an advisor to several US Presidents, and the leading voice of the former slaves and their descendants. 8 X 10.5. Very good condition with fold lines from mailing. Comes with a James Spence Authentication (JSA) Letter of Authenticity and a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
